Dear families,
I wanted to check in concerning First Holy Communions.
As you know, the governor has declared that schools will not be open until May 1 at the earliest. Given that First Communions were to be prior to that date, it is likely that we’ll be pushing them back. At this time, of course, we have no idea when it will be deemed safe to congregate as a community again. I would hope that we can have First Communions soon after we return to public Masses. This includes all First Communion activities: retreat, banner, rehearsal and Mass.
So much is uncertain at this time, but I will let everyone know as soon as we have an idea what we’re looking at.
In the meantime, please watch for resources that the teachers and/or I will send to help you continue to prepare your children. This week has been focused on figuring out, as a parish staff, how to navigate this crisis and stay connected to our parish members and families. In the coming days I’ll be putting together online faith formation resources to share.
Be assured of my prayers, and please pray for us.
In Christ,
Leighton Drake

“[T]he definitive aim of catechesis is to put people not only in touch but in communion, in intimacy, with Jesus Christ: only He can lead us to the love of the Father in the Spirit and make us share in the life of the Holy Trinity.” St. John Paul II, Catechesi Tradendae, no. 5

Note from JoAnna - please complete your First Communion banner, but we will not have you turn it in until a date is set for the Mass.
