Bishop James Wall of the Diocese of Gallup will be with us this weekend for his annual appeal. Bishop comes to us through the cooperative mission appeal, whereby each parish hosts a religious community or mission diocese from around the world every year. Missionaries are invited to share about the nature of their work and how we can participate in their ministry through our financial contributions and prayers. We ask that you please discern what you can give financially! Checks may be written to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with Diocese of Gallup in the memo line.
The Diocese of Gallup is by far the poorest in the United States. In some respects, living conditions resemble those of a third-world country within the U.S. In their efforts to provide their people with opportunities for an encounter with the living Christ, they strive to alleviate some of the intense suffering through emergency shelters, food banks, substance abuse prevention programs, thrift shops, prison ministry, and a nursing facility.
